Finally, I have fitted another part of the roll bar padding. However this one (the top one) is the one that surrounds the high level brake light and hides the wiring.

The picture is quite useless to show this as (naturally) the brake light is on the other side of the roll bar.

At least this arrangement means I did not have to drill into the roll bar at all.
