Right, going completely off tack here. Must be something to do with the weather and lack of working on the car. I remember the worst thing about the sequential gearbox was not knowing which gear you were in. Unfortunately, the ZX9 engine does not have an inbuilt sensor. There are modules out there that measure pulses going to the tacho and speedo and then calculate what gear you must be in. These are known to be quite slow. Therefore I have been looking into making an up/down counter. Microswitches on each side of the gear selector provide up and down inputs into a circuit that is reset to zero every time the neutral light is lit. This way it will start with a new zero in case of false neutrals. The circuit seems to be acheivable using a 4510 BCD up/down counter and a BCD 7 segment LED driver. This is only drawing board stuff for now, but if I have to go away on the submarine again, I will be taking the parts to build a test circuit.
